A New Apartment, Plumbers and a Test
There’s a lot of things currently happening in my life, from studies and tasks that I almost don’t even have time for, from tests to write, to family members like my grandmother’s sister getting very ill. These things tend to happen all at once, I guess that’s just Murphy’s law. With all of this happening, there is a small wedding for me and my fiancé to arrange and I have to move into a new apartment.
After many searches on gumtree, property 24 and others property related websites, we found the perfect small apartment to rent and move in together, once my fiancé and I are married. With this new apartment, a few other problems arose yet again, like for instance a broken toilet and a broken geyser pressure valve. Now I am a man who know my toilets and how to fix them, trust me I kind of use them a lot, hehe forget about what I just said. This toilet in the new apartment is a newly installed, Geberit toilet system, a system that you can’t fix without a plumber.
The renting agent arranged for a plumber to come and deal with the problem. It was then when I saw the beauty in life, with a son and his father who started out there own plumbing business came to fix the problem. Seeing how the dad teaches his son the ways of life and the day to day lessons while working was a beautiful sight to see. After everything got fixed, they packed up all there equipment and off they went to their next callout.
My goodness, as a student you won’t believe what a humongous effort it was to move from a small bachelor flat to a new apartment. I made many arrangements for friends to help me, but on my day of moving, one of my friends caught a big flu virus and couldn’t help, my other friend slipped and fell into a swimming pool and hurt his leg real bad and couldn’t help as well. I ended up moving almost everything myself with my small little hatchback car. Doing about seven trips up and down from the one place to the other. By leaving my washing machine, fridge, the bed basis, and table at the old bachelors flat disrupted me to go and stay in full at the new apartment; basically, I was just camping at the new apartment for a week. I had to go eat and cook at the bachelors flat and sleep in the new apartment.
This was a rough week, I had a hand in that I couldn’t pitch due to other work that had first priority, moving, and a huge theoretical test. I learned with this architecture course there is just never such a thing as working ahead and finishing ahead. The day before my Theory test I had to go for a crit session, and my lecturers where yet again no where to be found as per usual for that particular day(I'll leave out setian details just for my safety) even though it was class time, now this really started making my blood boil as I know that this subject is only R17 800 and I know where all my study money comes from, its not easy paying for that. I rocked up at the lectures office and two other girls were in his office looking at their test papers for 35min, this was for a subject nonrelated to mine that was scheduled for that morning. Yet again my blood started boiling, I waited for 35min. I probably took my reactions to far and yelled at the lecturer “I’ll come again!”. I know my anger was probably way out of line and I truly apologise for that.
With all this moving I didn’t even have a chair and table at home to go and study. I had to camp out in my old bachelors flat with no bed even just to take a small 10min nap on, I started out studying 12:00 the afternoon and studied right through to the next day 11:45am when the test started. @ 15:00 when I went back to that lecture and received my critique from him for the next hour and a half. I did not sleep for 28.5 hours and I also did not eat for that whole day. To eat takes time, I had to study so don’t eat.
Anyway, at least with the help of another friend and his bakkie, I was able to move my fridge, washing machine, table, and bed basis. Hopefully, now things will turn back to normal and I can focus on things that matter most in regards to my studies. Sometimes things don't always go according to plan. Well sometimes they don't go at all.. and that's also okey. Anyway in conclusion, all glory to God for carrying me through this week.
