Nelson Mandela University, Building 11

If you find yourself on South Campus, Nelson Mandela University, Port Elizabeth you certainly need to stop and look at the architectural sensitivity and design of Building 11. The construction of the building was completed in 2013.

The form of the building is a continuation of the adjacent Education Building forming part of the specific style of Nelson Mandela University and provides the Education building with additional offices, meeting rooms and Ablutions. The building made use of a zinc cladded envelope that makes a statement, knowing that all around the South Campus the most dominant material of choice is concrete. Yet this architectural design is not screaming out for everyone to come and look at the building. Studio D’Arch, the architectural designers, considered a sensitivity to this design by considering the form and context in which this building sits.

Building 11 certainly forms part of my list of favourit NMU Buildings!
